For the past 100-years, SF Studios has been the leading film and television company in the Nordics, producing and nurturing some of the best-known productions and creative talents in Nordic history.

Our expertise lies in producing and co-producing popular and qualitative films and television content that appeal to broad audiences. SF Studios has production in Sweden, Denmark and Norway and is also expanding its international production with  the development of several international films in English.


SF Studios started its production in Sweden in 1919 and has a long and proud history in film and TV production, including the films of Ingrid Bergman, Greta Garbo and Ingmar Bergman, and the TV productions of many of Astrid Lindgren’s most well-known works.

In 2013, SF Studios' capabilities were further strengthened by the acquisition of Tre Vänner, a writer led production company founded in 1995 by screenwriters Mikael Hjorth, Johan Kindblom and Tomas Tivemark.

In recent years, SF Studios has produced films such as Borg/McEnroe, Britt-Marie was here, Bamse and the city of Thieves, JerryMaya's Detective Agency 4 - The first mystery, the Easy Money-trilogy and A Man Called Ove (one of the most viewed films in Sweden of all time), as well as TV-series such as Alex, The Lawyer, The Hunters and Sagasagor.


SF Studios in Denmark has been making films and television since 2005. For longer than two decades, our proud history include successes such as Pernille Rose Grønkjær’s documentary The Monastery, Mads Matthiesen’s debut feature Teddy Bear, Niels Gråbøl’s feature film The Gift, Nicolo Donato’s feature Across the Waters as well as the feature films Marie Krøyer and Silent Heart by Palme d’Or and Academy-winner Bille August. Recently, we have produced Out of Tune, Gooseboy, Max Kestner’s sci-fi feature film Qeda and co-produced the feature film Borg McEnroe by Janus Metz.

In recent years SF Studios' production in Denmark has been particularly strong in television, producing four seasons of the comedy series Rita, two seasons of the ground-breaking crime series Norskov as well as co-producing six seasons of Seaside Hotel, one of the most popular shows in Danish TV history.


In 2018, SF Studios acquired the Norwegian production company Paradox, that is one of the leading production companies in Norway founded by the talents Finn Gjerdrum, Stein B. Kvae and Erik Poppe and has produced highly popular and successful films such as The King’s Choice and Utöya July 22.   

Since previously, SF Studios is a partner of the the Norwegian production companies Filmkameratene, that has been founded by John M. Jacobsen and has produced renowned films and TV series such as Kampen om tungvattnetTrollhunter and Burning; and Motion Blur that was founded in 2013 by the internationally acclaimed directors Joachim Rønning, Espen Sandberg and Harald Zwart.


SF Studios is currently in the process of expanding into English language films to reach a broader international audience. We are producing films in the thriller genre based on either Scandinavian stories and/or with top Scandinavian talent behind the camera. In the spring of 2020, SF Studios will release its first international film Horizon Line, directed by Mikael Marcimain with the international actors Allison Williams and Alexander Dreymon in the leading roles, and several international projects are under development, such as A man called Ove (US remake) and I am Victor.
